HELP-Lexapro Please...........

Posted by galkeepinon on August 27, 2003, at 2:27:31

Yikes! I mentioned this in another post but got no replies, but tonight was the topper.
I just woofed down a drumstick (you know those ice cream cones) a KINGSIZE one, and a Haagen Daz Bar!!! I am craving sugar!!! Not so much chocolate, just sugar-I guess ice cream obviously!! Has anyone been having these symptoms with the Lex? I'm on my 4th week as everyone probably knows by now, and I'm quite disgusted with myself at the moment. Anyone out there relate? I'm not too sure what to think really.
But *oink oink*, now, I am *oink oink* going to sleep, *oink oink* before I eat up the whole fridge:\
Seriously, this has me concerned, I wasn't this way before the Lexapro, wondering if sugar cravings are a side effect?
Anyone please????
Thanks
oinkkkkkkkkkkkkk galkeepinon
goodnight......

hey there, gal,

i experienced an extreme longing for chocolate on lex that was unusual for me.

i'm not on it anymore, so i don't have any actual advice. sorry. i just didn't want you to feel like nobody was seeing your post.

i suspect if anyone really identified with the situation then they'd most likely be reticent to post and relate sad tales of indulgence. you're a brave woman to do so. ;)

i guess the idea is that, ultimately, you'll feel so great from the benefits of the drug that you'll be able to spend more time in the gym to work off your cravings?

For me it was Chex Mix, or sourdough toast w/real butter, I couldn't get enough!!! And about the same time, weeks 4-7. For some reason sugar gave me either a headache or made me anxious/hyper. But I got over it and have only *binged* a time or 3 in the last couple of months (because I was upset or really bored, they triggered the eatfest).

Good luck to you!~~~8|8

Hi Mariposa:-) This sounds good~~oh no another thing to pork out on for me LOL Maybe my appetite will go back to normal within time. I usually binge when I'm stressed but don't when I'm depressed which leads me to think that now that I'm feeling less depressed, my appetite is coming back?! Prozac did the same thing to me!!!
I gained on that med.
Thanks for your support!
How are things going with you on the Lex???

I'm doing *better* again since I raised dose. I don't eat as large a portion at meals as I used to, which has helped me keep weight down. Just don't feel as hungry and get full more quickly. An SE I can live with!!

Best of Luck!~~~8|8

OH MY GOSH!!! Don't think you are crazy becuz of your cravings! I have been on Lexapro for 3 weeks now. I have mowed my way thru my refrigerator and freezer! I NEVER have eaten like this before! I want candy, doughnuts, bread & butter (thick!) leftovers, whatever is within reach! What is up with that???? I ate so much a few days ago I was sick the next day! I know this could not be normal, but I swear this only happened after I have been taking this drug.???
I was on wellbutrin Sr for a year and my eating was healthy and moderate.

OH MY DOUBLE GOSH!!! I hear you!
My appetite has increased so much after being on this Lexapro for 3 months. I'm not sure what's going on...
I think I'm going to ask my doctor to put me back on Topamax, it helped my moods so much too!
Hang in there!!!!

I do not think this Carb craving is unusual, I went through it too....couldn't get enough Chex Mix or sourdough toast, I wanted them ALL the time! And others have posted similar experiences. I did get over it and I was lucky in that I lost weight overall instead of gaining. Now I find I am not hungry all day, but once it gets dark I feel like eating everything in sight. I have been bad this weekend and ate like a pig, but then I probably won't eat anything today, I still feel FULL.

Good luck to us all!~~~8|8
