Hi
Have seen many posts in this board on SSRI poop out effect. But I have seen many patients remain on their initial SSRI dosages for years and years without having any tolerance to the effects and (indeed side effects) of these medications. So I wonder what is SSRI poop out ? If a patient enjoys the full antidepressant effect of an SSRI on a steady dose over long-term (I mean years) should it necessarily be a placebo phenomenon?

Hey, good question. I'm sure part of it is a built-up tolerance. Another reason for *poop out* might simply be somebody so used to using the med that they don't notice it anymore, thinking that it isn't working anymore. In my case, while going through different life phases, my Anti-Depressant needs changed from depression to anxiety. I don't know how all the dopamine & serotonin & neuro...whatevers, etc. etc. changes as a person grows older. The idea of *poop out* scares me because Effexor has changed my life around and I'm afraid to go back to who I was.
If you find any answers, please share them. :)
