Wellbutrin SR half life and dosage question

Posted by theo on August 20, 2003, at 14:54:30

I'm currently taking 90mg Prozac Weekly and 100mg of Wellbutrin SR every morning. My doctor said I could move up to 200mg of Wellbutrin SR after a week. I've got samples of both 100mg and 200mg tablets. If they make a 200mg tablet it's obviously safe to take that much in one dose and was wondering if it would be better to take one 200mg in the morning which would be much easier, or a 100mg in morning and 8 hours later take another 100mg. Is the dosage split you read about in the sample pack to cover their butt from seizure risk or is it because the half life is to short with Wellbutrin SR, therefore better to split the dosage??

The half-life of Wellbutrin SR is 21 hours.

200 mg is the maximum dosage that should be taken at one time.

You can either take the 200 in the morning or 100 in the morning and the other 100 in the afternoon, either is fine. The only advantage is that you might get a little energy boost (if Wellbutrin does this for you) by splitting the dose.

400 mg is the maximum dosage that should be taken in a day.
