Question for bipolars on lithium:
IF your lithium levels were VERY low (wayyy below therapeutic levels), would you likely have ANGER/irritability problems as a result?
My lithium level is downright puny (.02 or even lower) and I'm having anger/irrit. problems but I'm not sure if it is solely because my lithium level is so low OR if it is because of the Remeron that I'm taking...OR, if it is a combo of the two--- I've read that bipolars who were taking an AD WITHOUT a mood stabilizer could really become destabilized...would that cause anger/irrit.? I'm basically on an AD (Remeron) without a mood stabilizer (since my Li levels are almost non-existant) but I never get any euphoric "highs".

It really could be any-one of the two.
Remeron *can* cause irritability as it did
in me. But, if you are bipolar you may also
be destabalized.IF you are otherwise satisfied with remeron then you could try raising your lithium dose.
Personally I find that antidepressants and lithium don't mix. You see, lithium has direct effects on lowering/raising certain neurotransmitters themselves.
It seems that when I take the two (lithium and Celexa) they are banging heads with eachother. One pushing me up and the other pulling me down.
For this reason you may try depakote - an effective mood stabalizer, particularly helpful for anger. It may also mix better with AD's because by it doesn't directly effect serotonin, norepinephrine, dopamine itself.
Good Luck
