I'm going off of Effexor (it's stopped working after several years) and considering either Zoloft or Luvox as I've been on just about everything else, except Parnate/Nardil and Remeron. Luvox seems to have the fewest side effects from what I've read...I'm especially concerned about weight gain and anxiety, insomnia...What has your experience been with side effects on Luvox or Zoloft?

In my experience, Luvox has the *most* side effects of the SSRIs--including weight gain, anxiety, and insomnia. To me, it was like a twice stronger version of Paxil (stronger side-effect-wise; no stronger therapeutically).
Zoloft I can't comment much on because it made me suicidal/homicidal after a few weeks and I discontinued it.

I've never used Zoloft, but I was on Luvox for four years. I'm *extremely* sensitive to side effects, and I took the Luvox at its maximum dose, so I would have to guess it was pretty benign for me. Of course everyone is different.
I didn't notice a lot of side effects at first, just a few brain zaps in the middle of the night. But by the end of the four years I hadn't had an orgasm for the entire time, I was apathetic and slept a *lot*, I felt completely stupid with a lot of memory loss, and it seemed to have a disinhibiting effect on my self injury urges. Oh, and I gained fifty pounds the first year.
But overall, it was still one of the best psych drugs I've ever taken in terms of side effects, and if I ever really need it, I will go back on it.

To me, I have been on every SSRI and Luvox has the least side effects. The only side effect I can recall I a dry mouth every morning for about a week. Nothing else. I guess everyone is just different in what side effects they will get. In my opinion though, I would give Luvox a shot. I am super sensitive to medications due to side effects - this has been the only one I could tolerate - so yes there is a lower incidence of side effects in comparison to all the other anti-depressants.

Hi, I recently went off of Effexor also, but I've been on Luvox and it did work well for me except the side effects I experienced (weight gain, edema) that's all I can remember, it was a while back.
Wish I could help out a little more,
Good luck to you
