My meds are definitely staying the way they are, but I've long been curious about these two medications, especially in treating anxiety. Rilutek (riluzole) is a med for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis which inhibits the reuptake of GABA-A and GABA-B (unlike that godforsaken Gabitril, which just targets GABA-B) and possesses anticonvulsant and hypnotic properties. Sabril (vigabatrin/gamma-vinyl-GABA) inhibits GABA-transaminase, the enzyme that is to GABA what MAOI is to dopamine, serotonin, norepinephrine, etc. Nardil also inhibits GABA-T, which could largely account for its anxiolytic action.
Now that I think of it, though either of these drugs alone could be great, *combining* the two could be wonderful!
So anyone have any experiences? Or information? I'm gonna go do some more research on this myself. Thanks!

Both sound like very interesting meds. NIMH is doing studies with rilutek. It is pretty similar to lamictal (which helped me out a lot) in some regards.
Sabril sounds a great one too-touted as an ultra potent neurontin (which is my cornerstone drug). They say it is many times more potent and I'm wondering what this is goigng to mean for a current neurontin user potentially wanting to make the switch. I've heard they had some carcinogenesis problems in animal testing though, so I hope this isn't a problem in humans or delays FDA approval.
I haven't heard of anyone here having tries either med.

Oh, wow... I totally was not aware of that. No wonder it's not approved in the States. Thanks for the warning!

Strange, at www.mentalhealth.com they do not really warn about this. But believe me, I have my information from a password protected drug monograph collection in central europe. You can avoid eye damage with regular (every few weeks) eye checks and if there is any early sign of damage, just stop the drug. I would never take this drug, unless I am a treatment resistant epileptic..

Don't take me wrong, but I wanted to avoid this. First, the site is from Austria and is in german and only list drugs aproved in austria. It is not really password protected, but there are only 10 users allowed at a time to use it. This site is run by a company who is selling their collection as books, cds or intranet solution etc. I seem to be the only person who uses this site, which is paradoxically free. And I am very happy about this, because every detailed medical monographs are only accesible for doctors. Its the only site for me to look up things from my country. I am afraid if I post the link, I will not be able to login (10 users at same time) or they maybe shut it down. If you still want the URL, despite it is in german, tell me, and I send you an email with the url to the adress provided on your homepage. I just do not want to post it to the public. I hope you understand me.Roland
PS. what about the global drug database?
http://www.atmedicacs.com/
It costs 300euro ~ 300 USD per year.Another one from Switzerland (german or french)
www.documed.ch (very conprehensive and free)

Sabril: Or use http://babelfish.altavista.com/ to translate
http://www.kompendium.ch//data/fi_d/dk03986_.htm
But the translate engine is quite bad and produces weired output.
