I just posted a reply, but it didn't show up... guess I'll try again.

Not at all--many people report less anxiety and irritability while taking Depakote. This is probably largely due to its actions to increase GABA levels.

> how long should i have waited to start the lexapro? see previous post re: lexapro jitters

That's a highly individualized kind of thing, so I can't really answer that... but re: your current dose of Lexapro, you may want to cut back to 5mg for a couple more weeks before raising the dose to 10mg. Titrating the dose upward too fast on about any med can worsen the side effects.

I hear a lot about Depakote in the posts. Can someone explain to me what this med is indicated for?

Depakote (valproic acid) is a "mood stabilizer", until recently used most often for the extreme form of bipolar disorder ("manic depression"). It seems to be used more widely now for anxiety/agitation etc., at lower doses than for severe bipolar disorder.

I declined taking it due to many reports of mood dulling, weight gain, and possible liver damage. However, it seems to be very effective for some people, who I'm sure will fill you in on the details.

Hi -

Depakote is used in the treatment of epilepsy, for bipolar, and to prevent migraines. Those are the main things it's used for - there may be other uses.
