Is anyone still on Nardil?? I just started - HELP!

Posted by Angelic9144 on July 30, 2003, at 19:29:53

Hi everyone, new to the board :).

Ok, I started Nardil 45mg 2 weeks ago.

I have:

OCD + Social Anxiety + panic attacks (rare)
(ocd used to be sort of symmetry related - couldn't be on same axis/plane with my little brother when i was 10)

Tried paxil, some anxiety/ocd success, stopped working for ocd and anxiety.

Effexor - crap for me

Wellbutrin - made me nervous

What is everyone's dosage/length of being on nardil? What are you taking it for?

I'm going to up my dosage to 60mg on Monday (3 week mark). When will it kick in for ocd and/or anxiety (when did it for you, what do you think from your experience with other posters on nardil)?

Thanks!

Gabriel

I just started Nardil about a month ago. Right now I'm at 45mg and it's amazing - anxiety, sleep, mood have all improved - social anxiety has improved as well. Give it a little time. Nardil is proving to be a diamond in the rough.

In my humble opinion Nardil is a wonder drug that should be considered more often. The research on it and medical knowledge of it is quite outdated; the shame is that while most of the food restrictions turned out to be unfounded medically, little or none of that information ever got communicated to the prescribing practitioners. I took it for 10 years and it saved my life. The community of Nardil users shared studies that had been published over the past several years and were thus able to live normal lives re diet. Side effects are an issue but hopefully can be minimized given sufficient medical attention. However, there are limits as to what compensating medications can be taken to negate side effects. Klonopin can be combined with Nardil, for instance. I would definitely give it at least two weeks try. It is definitely worth trying in the medical mix, especially for thsoe who did not have success with SSRIs and other "traditional" meds.

I whole-heartedly agree! The diet turned out to be nothing of what it was - you couldn't eat chocolate or caffeine or cheese - HA! There are some things to definitley watch out for - aged meats, soy sauce and REALLY aged cheeses - but eating a Dominos pizza won't kill you (although it may cause heartburn). I have found Nardil to carry little side effect(s). When I began, I noticed headache and irritability - but they added Klonopin and it helped tremendously. I'm now at 60mg and almost do not need the klonopin. Nardil covers everything - anxiety, sleep, etc. and it has BOOSTED my sex drive. I'm not %100, but I'm getting there and I'm alive for the first time in many....many....years.

Nardil user since 1996. It has been life saver for me as well. I started with klonopin along with and in 1999 was switched to xanex, the xanex has not had the therapudic fad as the klonopin did for me.
As for the diet the only things I have found to be problomatic is alcohol and some Over counter cold meds. I only get a little sick and usually fall asleep. sometimes they don't affect me at all.
One thing I am having trouble with is being able to function in the heat of S. CA but this probably has nothing to do with Nardil.
I found that when I quit smoking using nicotine gum I became addicted, stopped nardil for about 4 months once (unable to find pharmacy with access to it) and the craving left. The same with cola drinks.

This whole thing with deppression and all is just trial and error. I went through 7 yrs of testing other meds and therapy before Nardil. You should try it out. My experience was life was not worth living as it was, but just kept on trucking. Lucky my suicide attempts were only overdosing meds and hoping, and as you can see I survived and found the Nardil / xanex combination to be the best thus far.
I will always continue to learn more info and keep up with new anti depressants and options to even better my feelings of life which are what I consider to be average most of the time with some low lows and high highs.
Just keep on plugging away till you find what works. I was even willing to go to the extream of electro shock therapy but could not afford it. If some day I find no other new meds or combination thereof and can afford it I may still try it.
And yes tommorow I may be ready to off myself again, I just look at and hold by 3 yr old little boy and struggle through another day until I feel good again.

Hang in there bud, life sucks for most people, and for us it just sucks alot more.

Good luck and give the nardil a try 2months is what it took to start helping me.
