I have been on Abilify since Jan and most of the side affects have disappeared except for the anxiety and the EPS like movement problems that I sometimes have. I am a nurse, a psychiatric one even, and none of my patients have gotten this yet. However, I read here a few weeks ago that some of you were having relentless anxiety and really bad activation. (More than the package insert would like to admit) I am on Artane and Ativan and they help sometimes, as well as dosage reduction from 30 down to 15. I absolutely refuse to go off of this medication because I am responding so well for the first time in 18 years....HELP!!!!

What are you being treated for, if I may ask?Have you tried amantadine (Symmetrel) for the EPS? Do you think your "anxiety" is actually akathisia?

I would try the following, in order:
1. Cogentin (benztropine)
2. Inderal (propanolol)
3. Klonopin (clonazepam)
4. Symmetrel (amantadine)Akathisia is a horrible side effect and has made me quit taking several of the atypicals. It has even driven some to suicide. The atypicals (Abilify, Geodon, Seroquel, Risperdal, etc.) are supposed to have fewer EPS side-effects than the typicals, but I have not found this to be the case. I take Haldol PRN and am very satisfied.

Please excuse me, I am pretty computer illiterate so it takes me a long time to post. I am a rapid cycling bipolar...I have decided to try Cogentin one more time at like o.5 mg BID or TID and see if I get the same side effects. I have been sick for 18 years so I am used to being a masochist and I will do anything for something that works.Plus I have the most wonderful P-doc in the world that I love and adore that lets me do anything within reason, so I know that he will stand by my decisions. Anyway, Abilify has been a wonder drug for me, if I can get rid of these nuisances...smooth sailing!!!!
