Strange side effects of sulpiride

Posted by Kari on July 25, 2003, at 14:58:32

I am on 20 mg of celexa and for several days added about 20 or less mg sulpiride. For some reason I developed painful and swollen breasts on the third day but was told this cannot happen after several days and on such a small amount of sulpiride.
Has anyone here suffered similar side effects on this drug or any other low-dose neuroleptic?
Thanks,
Kari.

I'm glad you asked this question. I didn't realize that sulpiride was so apt to produce hyperprolactinemia. I guess you already know that this can cause painful or enlarged breasts. I'm not sure what dosage and treatment period is necessary for sulpiride to cause this.

Hi,
I had a very similar effect on the same med...in fact I started lactating! I suggest you see your doc again and try another antipsychotic. I found seroquel worked the best.

Cheers,
Amy
