Any luck with Doxepin?

Posted by kara lynne on July 22, 2003, at 2:42:15

My doctor prescribed it for sleep and depression. He was deciding between that and Vivactyl (protryptimine)--the only two tricyclics I haven't tried yet.

I know it's sedating, but I wondered if at low doses it was tolerable. And I wondered if at low doses anyone got any relief from depression.

The other one is quite a bit more energizing, I know. I was a little afraid of the potential for anxiety.

I've tried many hundreds of thousands of things.

I'm hoping to hear a few good Doxepin stories, if they're out there. Thanks.

My mother had great sucess with this one. It has a good serotonin effect too, like amitryptaline. It is sedating.

I think the standard dose for depression is 70 mgs. What dose are you planning on taking ?

Oh, how I like that word success.

I am planning to start with 10mgs. I'll be amazed if I can tolerate that!

Thank you for your post.

10 mg should be very tolerable, if not right away, then after a little time.

I know some people who have been useing 10-20 mg of Doxepin for *years* for once chronic insomnia.

Good Luck
