Abilify and acute anxiety attacks

Posted by kotsunega on July 14, 2003, at 23:35:11

Hello all,

It's been some time since I last posted. At that time, and for about the first six weeks on Abilify, everything was going along just fine. This week, however, I've been experiencing acute episodes of anxiety and the only thing I can think is causing it is the Abilify. Anyone else have this happen on Abilify? The attacks are really strange. Like for instance, I found something needing to be done in my job that I overlooked. Not a big thing. I went into a panic over it though, and even spent some time fearing I would be fired because of it. As another instance, I downloaded some copies of different literature from a site for my own use - not to be shared - and after a short time got the overwhelming feeling that I had committed copyright infringement and would be found out and would get in big trouble, etc., etc., ad nauseum. I know better than that, but the fears hung with me for quite some time anyway. Is Abilify doing this? Have to see my psydoc in the morning and may ask to be switched to Geodon. I don't like this anxiety nuisance one bit. Any comments appreciated. Thanks.

Hi cybercafe,

Glad you responded. Yes, I suppose it could be uncontrolled psychosis breaking through the Abilify. Well...it was worth a try. I'll see what the pdoc has to say tomorrow.

Til later,

I saw the pdoc today, and she wants me to stick with the Abilify. She says what I am experiencing is not a psychotic break-through, but just plain anxiety. She prescribed Ativan, so the Abilify story continues...

I'll update my experiences when I can.

I would blame the Abilify, that was my expirience with it. Or maybe the Abilify does not cure this? I had the same problem when I went off my Zyprexa, with or without the Abilify. Why do I depend on Zyprexa? Its been too long now, 5 years, I need help.

Yes, I agree with you about Zyprexa. It works wonderfully for me as it must for you. Only problem was it raised my cholesterol level too high, so we are trying the Abilify. Were it not for the lipid profile problem, I would still be on my old friend, Zyprexa.

The only reason it raised my cholesterol was from the weight I gained. I lost the weight and cholesterol went back to normal.

According to my pdoc, if you're going to have problems, like insulin resistance leading diabetes, etc. from Zyprexa, the problems will begin to show up immediately. It's good you were able to lose the weight while taking Zyprexa. I have not been able to do that -- part of the reason I am switched to Abilify now. Different strokes and all that... I'm glad Zyprexa works for you without complication.
