Hi, I have OMEGA pills that I take regularly. However, I want to take JUST fish oil and cannot find anything. When those of you talk about fish oil, is it salmon oil (yes, I know a salmon is a fish)? Because that is the only thing I can seem to find.
Also, I was reading that for the fish oil to be effective for mood disorders that you need to 9.6 grams of the stuff. Some people take 32 pills a day. Is that how much I should be taking? Because I would have to take out a loan to buy that many pills.
Thanks.
Max

The use of omega-3 fish oil is rapidly evolving and doses are not set in stone yet.Fish oil contains EPA and DHA and it is mostly EPA that is relevant (although DHA is low in bipolar and Alzheimers and is important in pregnancy for building up the baby`s brain),not the total weight of the capsules. For depression 1g EPA seems to be a typical dose and for schizophrenia 2g EPA.The 9.6g figure originated in a publication by Andrew Stoll MD in 1999 on bipolar disorder but he finds that he usually prescribes 5g max as a rule now.I have more details on omega-3 in www.omega3.20megsfree.com

Max:
You can get a supposedly high-quality fish oil from Dr. Stoll's website at www.omegabrite.com. It is made from smaller fish, I believe, to minimize mercury exposure. He boasts that the omegabrite pills have the highest, most pharmaceutically pure concentration of EPA on the market. I have tried the product several times for my GAD with no results, but have heard positive feedback from others who use it. It's worth a try.
