I "touch bottom" with some very mild psychotic depressive symtpoms during the summer sometimes (a few days here and there). My grandmother had to have ECT and hospitalization once because of this. She was hearing voices and thought my grandpa was plotting to kill her and all sorts of wild stuff. My Uncle and my Dad had to run her down and tackle her out in the woods and bring her in. The cortisol connection is especially interesting. When I get "mixed states" troubles and sleep-deprivation (recently) I have this major problem with very oily skin, acne outbreaks, panic, all sorts of crap. I wish I could get wired up and tested for free for a year, just to see what the hell is going on.....

Gotta say that having had to have taken that medication for the on label prescription it did squat for my depression. However there were hormones at work and other mystery health concerns going on as well.
Wish it can help some. I would be reluctant to go through that again. Twas a major hassle and quite the mood tweaking medication for me. But we're all wired so damn differently.
Thanks for link Phil.

I don't think the dosages are the same for RU-486's current approved use and for its use in psychotic depression. Moreover, the approved use of RU-486 involves a highly emotional, personal decision that is generally not at all a mood lifter for anyone involved. Also, as you note, there are lots of hormones involved in the beginning stages of pregnancy that really complicate things.

All I can say to that is yup. But am interested to see what usages these white coats are playing around with for depression. Always interested in new chances with other meds for treatment resistant depression. Thanks Jack.
