I NEED Responses GANG!! Celexa/Lexapro

Posted by McPac on June 30, 2003, at 14:23:46

Ok, I asked my doc (GP) to switch me to Celexa (off of Zoloft).....his nurse just called and said he wants me to start on Lexapro instead of Celexa......now, I really don't see any difference between Lexapro and Celexa.....so, I guess Lexapro instead of Celexa is okay with me......what do you all think? Is Lexapro any different than Celexa....any responses dudes/dudettes????

There are supposed to be less side effects on Lexapro and it is a little cheaper. I am on 20mg per day and I have had no problems. All things being equal, Lexapro is the way to go.

I've never taken Lexapro but I know Celexa did absolutly nothing for me. Just my experience.

McPac- I tried to switch from Celexa to Lexapro when Lex first came out and it made me sick as a dog. I felt like I had the flu for an entire month so I switched back to Celexa which is much better for me. But that's just my experience and it goes to show you different drugs affect people differently. I've heard the side effects on Lex are better than celexa but celexa doesn't really give me too much trouble with side effects. I say give it a shot and see how it works out.

Thanks Babs!
I'm taking the Lexapro plunge!!!
Is the Lex-to-Celexa equivalency 1/2 (i.e. 20mg Lex = 40mg Celexa???????)

(1)ANY idea if the Lexapro will NEGATE the Zoloft withdrawal effects, i.e. will starting Lex mean that I won't feel the Zoloft withdrawal effects due to Lex 'replacing' the Zoloft?
(I'm still thinking that I should slowly reduce the Zoloft...why rush it..what's the hurry?)
(2) Is there a medicine equivalency site? (i.e. 10 mg Lexapro is equal to how much Celexa? Zoloft?) Thanks!!!

If you start the Lexapro as soon as you discontinue Zoloft, there should be no problem - unless the doses are very different (i.e. you've been taking 200 mg Zoloft, but are only going to start 5 mg Lexapro... I don't believe this is your situation) No harm in slowly tapering though, if it makes you feel better.

I don't know of one. To answer your previous question about Celexa and Lexapro... yes, just 1/2 the dose of Celexa to get the same dose of Lexapro - for example, 40 mg Celexa = 20 mg Lexapro.

As for Celexa and Zoloft... hard to say, but 50-100 mg of Zoloft is probably equal to about 20 mg Celexa. This is just a rough estimation though.

I started Lexapro about 5 days ago and I was on Zoloft 150mg and everything is going well. I split my Zoloft into 2x50mg per day, and will soon go to 50mg/day then nothing. I feel good effects from the Lexapro and nothing in the respect of Zoloft withdrawal. I hope it lasts, it seems like a very nice antidepressant and good for anxiety, as long as you work with it and not against it. I'm comparing this to previous meds, some of which worked and then had lowered efficacy (Zoloft) and others which did very little. I have taken Effexor, Paxil, Remeron, Zoloft, Wellbutrin. Lamictal was the biggest life-saver for me though, without it I am wavering between bliss and fear. Once you stablizie it, the bliss is reduced and almost feels scary when you experience it because you know the fear is around the corner.

Hope this helps.

Take care,
Charlie
