I was also a wreck when my Mom died. Celexa helped but I also needed the Klonopin. Don't expect to feel better immediately. It takes time to grieve. Will be praying for you.

how long have you been doing the lexapro?
it is pretty standard to take a benzo for anxiety while using the ssri to stabilize your neortransmitters against depression, but ssris sometimes, manytimes take weeks to overcome adaptation SEs (which can include anxiety (!)) and to provide therapuetic benefits ....

.... then if you have been on lexapro very long (or not even very long), quitting now without titrating down will cause "discontinuation syndrome" aka withdrawals, as the lex's support for your serotonin levels gets removed .... which will definitely increase anxiety .. .. ..

... ... of course you need to check with your doc, let him/her know what's up and get her/his suggestions ... ... might want to confer with your pharmacist, too .....

... AND i'm No doc and i'm No pharmacist ... ...

... but if i were you, i'd try to stay with the lex doseage and then increase the benzo for the anxiety ... ...

sorry to hear this is rough for you ... ... i lost both of my parents about a year ago now ... ... been on 10mg of lex 3 1/2 months now ... ...i'm a dad to our one and only 4 year old ... ... hang in there .. ... they depend on us ...

TAKE CARE ! ! ! ! ! !!!

Male34, I am so sorry to hear about your loss. You shouldn't be so hard on yourself. Give yourself sometime to mourn the loss of your mom. Grieving comes in many shapes and forms, yours is obviously anxiety. Keep taking the meds, but you really should look at getting some CBT, or reading up on it. Anxiety is basically fear of fear, once you let go and say f#@* it, when you are getting panicky and just let it happen without freaking out about it, it will go away. Trust me on this, I learned to drive, shop and everything, all in the middle of a panic attack. It is "really" hard, to say the least but it can be done and once the anxiety attacks don't scare you anymore, they go away.

Good luck and go easy on yourself. Everything takes time.
