ever go away?
I know it causes anger/irritability in some people. Does the body eventually adjust to the med so that the anger/irrit. goes away or does the anger/irrit. stay as long as you take the med? Thanks in advance!

I am taking 15 mg and have had some irrational irritability. It is very annoying and I wonder what in remeron causes this? Is this related to serotonin? NA? I am somewhat stable right now, but not good or bad just getting by. Hard to get out of bed in the morning. Not sure what to try....

It may be hard to get out of bed in the morning due to the sedative properties of Remeron. Oddly enough, I took it in 98 and didn't think it really did anything. I took it a few months ago and not only did it kick my ass and put me out of commission at night, but I had a major hangover effect the next day that kept me from really doing anything. I also had some irritability--I stopped taking it.

For the duration I took the med, 5 months, it presisted the whole time. Finally I just could not stand it, this wasn't me. So I went back to Celexa.
Increasing Norepinephrine can lead to irritablility (in general Effexor causes more thant SSRIs) But I think it is linked the 5HT-2 blocking abilities. It relieves insommnia, but during the day I think activating these receptors reduces irritability.
Good Luck

It relieves insommnia, but during the day I think activating these receptors reduces irritability.Maybe partially, but no, i'll tell you exACTly what this is from-- the antihistaminic effects. Ever since i can remember (about a decade), whenever i would take any psychoactive antihistamine, including Remeron and diphenhydramine (Benadryl) and etc., i would get SO FREAKING IRRITABLE. It's weird, but it's definitely true. i think it's like you're just so damn drowsy and lethargic that when you have to do the slIGHtest extra thing, or say the slightest extra things to people, it just drives you mad (like "AH shut UP! Don't make me move; don't make me talk).
On that note, i really think the antihistaminic effects of Remeron are highly overlooked by the psychiatric, pharm., etc communities. Yeah they say it's responsible for "some" weight gain and appetite increase (which i dont personally mind at all), but what about the other results of histamine antagonism? i also always noticed that on any antihistamine i'd always be MUCH more depressed-- especially the next day. Now you observe those "Organon conferences" (about the wonders of Remeron basically-- it's on the internet), and you will find all sorts of praise for Remeron's lack of side effects and its antidepressant pharmacological effects (basically like "and the norepinephrine potentiation combined with the serotonin potentiation should have highly effective antidepressant properties" or whatever), but does it MENtion that the strong-as-heck antihistaminic properties might actually AGGRAVATE depression considerably, or can turn one into a raging idiotic wordless baffoon?? Noooooooo, of course not, they're not gonna spend money on finding that s**t out. That stuff just makes me angry.
i do believe, however, that Remeron can still definitely be a good antidepressant and what not, of course. But i just wish they would say that it might also do [this & this & this] and even make you more depressed, etc until maybe the you get tolerance to the anti-H effects enough. Same with other drugs-- same concept. The patients are left in ignorance.

Thanks in advance! It never went away for me the three different times (different combos) that I've tried it. It never seemed to get worse or better-just the same-and it didn't matter how much Remeron I took either. I haven't read anything here about anyone that took it, got irritable from it, then it "faded" after awhile either. I suppose that if someone was very irritable due to their depressive symptoms and Remeron worked great for their depression, that the irritability *might* fade away, but haven't heard that yet.

I'd chalk it up to the combination of H1 antagonism and alpha-2 antagonism - yeah. Anti-histamines have made me quite irritable in the past, particularly promethazine. Though sometimes they do just the opposite, and have a pleasant calming effect.

Periactin (an antihistamine) improves my irritability, but Remeron never did.
I have to admit, that I was less irritable on Remeron, than I was on nothing. At least on Remeron, I felt like I could get stuff done, and that I enjoyed certain things (eating and sleeping). But for me it was a bad combination. I couldn't gain weight so I couldn't eat that much, and nothings worse than having drug induced hunger and irritability. But funny enough, when I wasn't hungry/irritable on it, It had a very potent AD effect on me.
