8 weeks and feeling a little better

Posted by Jenni Dykstra on June 12, 2003, at 13:08:39

I've been following this message board for a couple months now, but I haven't posted yet. I've been taking Lexapro (10 mg.) for the past 8 weeks. I noticed side effects during the first two weeks, and then again at about week 5. So for those of you who are at the beginning stages of taking Lexapro, I wanted to tell you that it does get better.

My anxiety is almost completely gone. The other day I called my insurance agent, which probably doesn't sound like a big deal to most people. But I had so much anxiety about making phone calls that I couldn't have done that a month ago. I'm also a lot less stressed at work and at home.

The other thing I've noticed is that my physical energy has increased a LOT! I take my dog for walks a couple times a day, I play with my kids in the back yard and I still have energy to clean my house. Today I am painting my bathroom...something that I've been avoiding for the past 18 months because I've been so tired!

I'm still not feeling 100 percent, but it's so much better than before. The only side effects I continue to have are tiredness (which my therapist says may not be related to the Lexapro), and intense sweating. Everything else has gotten better. And I've actually lost weight!

Good luck to you all!

Jen

Jen,
I'm so happy that you're doing better. Thanks so much for sharing a positive story of Lexapro. It gives me more incentive to stay optimistic about my own treatment. Also, I was getting tired of hearing myself whine about my side effects. :)

That's great to hear you are feeling so much better and have more energy! I also take Lexapro and it is great for me also. Since you feel like you are not yet 100%, you may want to consider increasing to 20 mgs a day. 10 mgs made me feel better, but like you, just a little short of being that 100%. And it did make a difference for me. But the negative side of that was, I began to gain weight. I felt like I was retaining fluids and maybe my metabolism slowed down. But you know, after trying so many different A.D.'s, and finally finding one that really made me mentally feel great, I'm beginning to think it may just be worth it to deal with some weight gain in order to be happy. Talk with your Doc. I wish you the best - Good Luck!

FANTASTIC!!! I AM SOOO GLAD FOR YOU!!!

I have been on Lex almost 5 months and I too am doing GREAT. Lots of energy and not anxious. Today I felt a little low, but not enough to keep me home, I went to work, fixed dinner, cleaned kitchen....

I get so encouraged when I read of other's successes and hope that our experiences will help others just starting on Lex.

BEST OF LUCK TO US ALL!!~~~8|8
