I'm not feeling any improvement. also i have lost my appetite and am still having horrible panic attacks. my greatest wish right now is to just get a good nights sleep! my GP prescribed the 10mg. of lexapro and it's my first time taking anything. i don't know what to do - any suggestions? what will happen if i just stop taking it?

See my post from yesterday outlining my short, not sweet, experience with Lexapro: http://www.drbob.org/babble/20030609/msgs/232941.html
I never had a manic episode in my life until I began taking Lexapro. I am also haiving panic attacks again. As I mentioned on subsequent posts, I will start Xanax tonight to help with the anxiety to help me until I even out on this med. It's been really difficult, but I'd hate to go through all this crap and then give up too soon to see any positive results.

I agree with Sabena you havn't been on it long enough to see the effects. I started at 10mg the last week in April and on June 3 I was raised to 20mg from 15mg. June 2 was the first day I woke up with no anxiety. I do take Xanax 4 times a day, it did not do away with my anxiety, but it helped relieve some of it. My first night of peacefull sleep without waking up was last Thursday. Xanax will help you sleep. Try to hang in there I know it's hard, but you have to think it will get better. don't hesitate to ask for input we all will help the best we can. I found relief by just reading the writings from others.
Hang Tough!! Tim

From what I have read on this board it is NOT a good idea to stop taking this med "cold turkey", as it may cause worse SE's. If you are serious about stopping, do it gradually.

However I agree with the other posters that it is too soon to tell anything. My depression and anxiety got worse around 4-5 weeks, made me question what was I doing and whether Lex would ever work AT ALL. But I stuck it out because of the encouragement I got from the great people on this board. Around week 9 I was finally sure Lex was working and I have steadily improved since then.

So I will now encourage you to hang in there a little longer and give it a chance. Best of luck~~~8|8

I forgot to add that I had suffered from insomnia most of my adult life....a contributing factor to my depression - LACK OF SLEEP!!!

But Lexapro has "cured" me of that...I fall asleep easily at my regular bedtime and sleep soundly through the nite....no more waking up at 3 or 4 AM and not being able to go back to sleep.

If for no other reason than that - a decent nite's sleep - I would willingly continue to take Lexapro!!~~~8|8
