I saw my pdoc today, and got a prescription for Provigil. I'm picking it up tomorrow.
I awoke to a minor household calamity this morning and struggled to deal with that as I was so so tired. I did have to go back to bed and sleep - I was worried I wouldn't be able to get to my appt. I was therefore my usual dullard self during my appt.
I first asked about Ritalin, which he didn't want to prescribe. I have had it before, although I had a problem with headaches from it. My medications are different now and I thought maybe I would be able to tolerate Ritalin - oh well.
So then I asked about Provigil, and he agreed to try that. I'm worried about "the Provigil headache" as I've heard it termed. I'm totally desperate though - I've got stuff I need to deal with this week and I'm really really struggling.
We need a new vocabulary for fatigue I think. Like how they say the Eskimo have 37 words for snow. I'm trying not to be too discouraged as I haven't had the Provigil yet, but....

I haven't had a headache yet from the Provigil. I only take 100mg which is I think half of the recomended dose. I take it as needed I guess. I just recently started Wellbutrin with my Prozac so since then I have been more alert. Good luck. It is a good med for me.

Zeliva, would you please let me know how much Prozac and Wellbutrin you are taking? Have you experienced any additional anxiety or panic attacks from the Wellbutrin? Am I understanding that you are taking Provigil, Prozac and Wellbutrin?
I have so many questions, because my doctor is thinking about trying Wellbutrin along with Fluoxetine. She was concerned that it might increase my anxiety, but overall Wellbutrin should help with my energy level and mood.
Please keep me posted on your progress, since I might be following in your path soon.
Thanks,
God Bless

Hi Edge- I originally tried WB with the Prozac back a few months ago and I hated it. I felt like I was on speed(if I knew what speed felt like)! It made me very anxious too. So I decided to wait on it. I would recommend by my own experience that you take Prozac for at least 6 weeks before you add the WB if your not already on it. I think you said you were. The Prozac did make me anxiety prone the first few weeks. Xanex 0.25mg helped during that rough period. I started the WB SR 100mg. No intial anxiety, just a lot of energy. It also makes me not hungry, which I guess is a good thing. I could lose a few lbs. I take 40 mg Prozac with the 100mg WB in the morning. It seems like this may be the combo I needed. Let me know if you have anymore questions. Hope I helped. Good luck to you.

I've been on Fluoxetine for almost two months now. My dr. wants me to remain at 10mg. for another four weeks. I need something to get rid of this derealization, sadness, and lack of motivation. I'm wondering if the Wellbutrin plus Fluoxetine combo. will help with these symptoms. I will see my dr. again on Friday, and I'm looking forward to hopefully getting her to prescribe the Wellbutrin or Provigil.
Thanks for your support.
God Bless

Hi Edgefield -
I've been on Wellbutrin (400 mg) for about 3 years. I've had a huge problem with fatigue since last fall, and I have added Prozac to the Wellbutrin (for the side effects!) It does make me sleep less, though I'm not as awake as I would like to be.
Wellbutrin can make you irritated and edgy at first (it feel sort-of like you've had too much coffee) - so if you take it, I would advise to start low and go slow.
I started taking Wellbutrin because I was tired (not as tired as I am now), so the edginess and insomnia didn't bother me too much, as that was actually sort-of what I was looking for. For me, it did go away after about a month (but this was on 300mg).
Hope this helps and good luck with your dr this week!

Could any of you kind pbabblers tell my why Provigil only lasts 4 hours for me (I believe half life is 8-12). I have taken 100mg, 200mg (divided doses), 400mg all at once. The limit is always 4 hours then I hit a very dysphoric rebound depression. When I take divided doses the second dose does nothing.
I must add it is possible I am Bipolar II (although I find this a no better guess than recurrent major depression). I have been at the "game" for more than 31 years - so anything short of toxic doses doesn't really concern me.
Current meds. Lamictal 200mg., Prozac 20mg, Klonopin 1.5 mg. I had Prozac poop-out 2.5 years ago and have lived with sever atypical depression since then. I am doing better on the above cocktail but still need to get my eyes open. Previous abuse problem with Dex. so amphetamines are out of the picture. Have given thought to Concerta. Any suggestions welcome.
Thanks Geezer

> Thanks GeezerHi-I don't know if you have tried this or not, but you might add a *little* Buspar (say 10-15mg/day) to the Prozac in your cocktail. I found buspar+SSRI to be very energizing in the past. Also, if I take more than about .75mg of Klonopin a day I get very groggy and listless, maybe back off the K. a click or two?
