Drowsiness and meds: Attn: SNOOZY !!

Posted by Janelle on April 24, 2003, at 22:18:20

I'm doing a bit better; I hate to say this but I was taking a three-week intensive class that was so slow and boring that I think it was inducing SOME (not all) of the drowsiness! Now that it's over I still feel drowsy, told my pdoc at recent appointment and he is gradually going to wean me off several of the sedating meds I'm on. It's going to be a long, arduous process because we have to take it one med at a time and taper gradualy because if he had me reduce two at a time and I had reactions we would not know which one was causing them, or if it was both, etc.

So, I'm starting with Buspar, weaning off over the course of two weeks. Please say a prayer for me, keep your fingers crossed, etc. I'm really tired (no pun intended) of feeling like what someone on here aptly called a "walking drugstore". And I'm also tired of feeling tired all the time!

Good to hear you're doing a bit better. I hope it was the class making you sleepy! (As long as you don't have to keep taking them!)

I'm seeing my pdoc next week. I hope he's willing to try something else for my drowsiness, because I have to get off caffeine. I'm waking up with hellacious headaches. I started adding some Prozac a few days ago - that's helping a tiny bit, but the effect will wear off.

I don't know if you've seen the movie Requiem for a Dream (from a few years ago, Mom (Ellen Burstyn) gets addicted to diet pills (speed) and son (Jared Leto) is addicted to heroin). I just saw it on cable a few weeks ago. If you haven't seen it, let's just say Mom goes through some harrowing stuff with the speed. And I found myself watching, thinking "well, at least I'd get the house clean" (if I were on speed). Something's not right with that!

I will say a prayer and keep my fingers crossed for you to feel awake. Please let me know if you do find some relief.

I just realized that I could change that song: Wake Up, Little Snoozy! Wake Up!

I do have to keep taking classes, BUT nothing like the intensive one I just finished. They're more like support groups that meet once a week for an hour-and-a-half. I should be able to remain awake for those! LOL!

Let me know what your pdoc lets you try for YOUR drowsiness. I also must have caffeine ASAP in the morning, but since you're waking up with headaches, it can't be the caffeine doing it.

In fact, caffeine actually helps headaches - a friend of mine gets bad migraines and a cup or two of coffee helps her.

It's when you go off caffeine that you can get withdrawal headaches!

No, I have not even heard of the movie Requiem for a Dream but it sure sounds interesting, possibly for renting! Sadly, Jared Leto has a *real life* drug abuse problem.

I will say a prayer and keep my fingers crossed for you to feel awake also. Please let me know if you do find some relief.

Keep me posted on how you do next week. GOOD LUCK!

I have to warn you that it's a very dark movie. I hadn't heard about Jared Leto. Gosh, I can't even keep up with pop culture. Is that good or bad? lol

I have a huge problem with migraines, so that's why I have to be careful with caffeine. I don't know what the deal is, but I start getting the withdrawl headache a little earlier each day, until I hit the point where I wake up in the wee hours, take a caffeine pill, and go back to sleep. And I have to keep escalating the amount of caffeine I take. One of the great tragedies of my life. I have these longing dreams about frappucino <sigh>

Thanks for the warning that it is a dark movie - I know just what you mean and I think I will have to avoid it. I do not like dark movies. They tend to disturb me and that's the last thing I need (LOL, yet serious too)

I have never (Knock on wood) had a migraine so unfortunately I can't empathize with you. But I feel badly for you that you suffer so - sounds like how intense my friend gets them.

Interesting that you have to keep escalating the amount of caffeine you take, because I am going to have to experiment and DECREASE my morning consumption of coffee to see whether it or the SSRI Celexa (the SSRI's are known to have the ability to induce hyperness, hypomania, even full blown mania) is causing me to get hyper like an hour after I drink my last cup. I have 2 1/2 cups and that's it. Starting tomorrow, I'm cutting back to see what happens. I may feel drowsy but if it rids me of the antsy-ness I will be SOOOO relieved because I do not want to have to reduce the Celexa for fear of going into another depression.

BTW, you can get de-caf Frappucino's!! (at least where I live!)
