depression feeling of pressure above left ear

Posted by qwerty6400 on April 12, 2003, at 16:56:55

I have had severe depression for the last two and a half years. It started when I began taking high doses of herbal antidepressants, and got signinficantly worse after I started an SSRI. I have tried all the SSRIs except for Luvox. I also tried Wellbutrin and Effexor. They either didn't work at all (after six weeks at the recommended dose) or gave me really bad psychiatric side effects. I decided to take six months off all medicine, since the problems began when I started it. It is now the fifth month and no progress so far, I feel exactly the same as I did on the medicines. What are my options now, besides suicide?

Also, a month or so after I began my first SSRI, this feeling of pressure developed above my left ear. It changes a lot, but it has been there, and sometimes on the right side as well, in some shape or form, ever since. It is pretty strong. I got an MRI hoping that would tell me something about it, but it didn't find anything abnormal.

Dear Qwerty,

How long are you staying on the AD's? It took me eight months of titrating to get to a therapeutic dose of Zoloft and six months at that level for it to break through the depression.

Like you, the herbal anti-depressants made things worse . . . valerian, st johns wort, etc.

Good God.....a year and two months? I am not willing to wait that long. I took several for 8 weeks at the highest recommended dose. A lot of people say that, that I need to stick with the medications for longer....but it's just too hard, it isn't worth it.
