Effexor XR- Starting for the first time

Posted by aazao on April 8, 2003, at 22:17:14

Hi. I am 30 years old and have suffered from anxiety for as long as I can remember. Even as a kid. I have never taken any meds at all for it. I have just started my 37.5 mg today. already I got the runs. Anyways, I was wandering if there is anyone else out there that has been in my position and how long did it take before results took place. I have a feeling it will work, my body is pretty receptive to meds, but I get real anxious for it to start working. Any feedback?
Thanks.

I've been on it for hmmm... probably about 6 months now. Was on 75 mg for a while and then moved up to 150 mg. 150 mg - after about 5 weeks, really helped with depression and to a lesser extent, anxiety. However, it "pooped out" after only a couple months.

I've been on effexor for 3 weeks now, and the major side effects stopped by the end of the first week, but started again when I went up to 75mg. Only lasted 2 days at 75 mg. I did have to be put on Visteral to help me sleep at night, and I'm having some sexual problems (no orgasm), I'm hoping that will fade away too! I started seeing a change by the end of the first week, I didn't feel that "on edge" feeling anymore, and felt more relaxed. For me, it's been a gradual thing, I feel a little better every day. I still don't feel like a "normal" person, but I'm slowly getting there. Good luck! Jessi
