The standard treatment for depression is 300mg (three times per day) If you are going to take it for a while, then buy a standardized brand.

I found it to be very effective - there are a lot who believe the same. If you find it effective consider the Kira standardized extract - its from Germany and its the one they do all the studies with.

Good luck

Yes, I would definately not take the combination.
Over time this can lead to dramatic increases in
serotonin, causing Serotonin Syndrome

Symptoms of Serotonin Syndrome Are:

- Extreme anxiety (can be psychotic)
- Rapid changes in body temperate (hot-cold)
- Rapid heartbeat
- Intense fear/panic (like something has gone
terribly wrong)
- Sweating
- Diahrea / abnormal bowel function
etc.

The symptoms can be gradual, but usually emmerge within about an hour (usually at bedtime/night)

There have been many cases of this syndrome
when combining the two together.

Discontine either of the two, presumably the
SJW (unless your depression is mild/moderate
and want to try SJW alone)

Good Luck

any other questions ?

I did a paper two years ago on St. John's Wort. I also took it
myself!! You can never really know with that stuff, because it
isn't regulated by the FDA, but here's my advice. The usual effective
dose is 900mg/day, but of course it can go up to 1200 or 1500. I went
up to 1200 and had no success. But you also can't be sure
how much of active constituents they are really putting in. I don't know
where you bought it, but I wouldn't trust Walmart or anywhere like that.
I'd recommend going with a real nutrition store like GNC
or something. I think that they probably have better products.
Also, make sure that your bottle has an expiration date. SJW has been
found to be helpful for some people with mild depression. It's worth
a shot. Good luck!

Don't use St. John's if you're on the pill

I read somewhere that St. John's Wort can dilute the effects of birth control pills, so if you are using them, you might want to use a back-up contraceptive.

If I wasn't on the pill I would try St. John's, but since I am, I just take flax oil tablets when I remember to. Those really seem to help, except when I'm in a really black mood. On daily basis, there has definitely been an improvement.

thank you very much
bad luck for me . I spent my money in this suplement(1 month treatment) instead of the fish oil.
Serotonin Syndrom , I dont like how its sounds
So I gonna stop taking STJW and continue with my
antidepressants , and buy FISH OIL (Dont konw how? no money in my pocket)

I really aprecciate your comments. They came at good time , Ive only taken 3 pills . I guess that is not bad , is it?
Thank you so much

Definately not bad. Theres no problems unless you have had symptoms of it.

Save the SJW. If you ever decide to change meds
you might use it. You could also give it to
someone else.

Don't mean to scare you it's just that the two are contraindicated, and I got Serotonin syndrome myself from SJW - the *WORST* experience of my life, even worse than all the depresison combined.

>Just wanted to add a word of agreement here...combining St Johns Wort and any of the ssris can be a really bad idea, although my husband has taken low doses of paxil and St. Johns with no ill effects. I myself had a horrible serotonin reaction on just 30mg of paxil with no St.Johns....worst experience doesn't really even come close to describing what happened. I think the effects of combining the 2 may depend on what your major problem is. Mine is anxiety/panic. It might not be so bad if depression is your major problem. But given the nature of serotonin syndrome I wouldn't risk it. Worrier.
