My elderly mother has been taking Risperdal for about a month.
It's not helping, and I want her to discontinue it. Should we do a taper, or just quit cold turkey?

My own experience tells me that tapering is preferrable, as sudden discontinuance will also end quickly the calm that one can feel from Risperdal. It would be like taking her from room temperature and dropping her in ice cold water. The experience is NOT pleasant.

Considering your mothers age I think you should taper. I guess it also would depend on how high of a dose she is on.
