New to Topamax

Posted by Smallchange on March 21, 2003, at 0:15:31

Just started Topamax (25 mg. and to increase to 50 mg. in two weeks) about 5 days ago for severe restless leg syndrome and bi-polar disorder. Also take 150 mg. of Welbutrin daily. I have not noticed any side effects yet. I have been a little nauseated today, but I am hoping it will pass. I am having fantastic results for restless legs with the Topamax. I have been on Gabitril, Lamictil, Klonipin, Depakote and Neurontin at various times for bi-polar and RLS. Topamax wins hands down. I am hoping for loss of at least some of the 50 pounds I gained during the Depakote years. The side effects do frighten me, but I have not been this free of the severe and always frustrating symptoms of restless leg syndrome EVER. I am talking about feelings that electricity is running through your legs and they thrash uncontrollably, to the extent that my husband and I no longer sleep in the same bed. I say "Thank you God." for Topamax and hope I remain side effect free.

Wow! Glad to hear you are getting benefits already! Seems that slow ramp-up has been the key for most people to tolerate Topa well. Good luck with it, and please keep posting. Many will be interested in your progress.
