There has to be a combination of drugs for depression and weight loss. My weight gain alone could cause anyone to be depressed.
Anyone out there have the answer?

Hi, I have seen walking success with the use of Topomax. Are you bipolar? I know a person who lost 100Lbs-and yep-it was from this med.
Let me know....

I am not bipolar, but will be adding resperdone next week to the 60mg of celexa I am currently taking. If this doesn't work, I'm giving it 3 weeks max) I will suggest the Topomax to the new PD I don't have yet. Do they usuallly only prescribe Topomax if you are bi-polar? I have gained about 35 pounds and am extremely uncomfortable as I am only 5 foot 1. The weight gain started last year with infertility drugs and now AD's .

Your very welcome, good for you giving it 3 weeks max-I think that is reasonable:-)
Topopmax is not only used for bipolar for some-but now for migraines. I think it may be a good med-but I have never been on it. I would only take it for the weight loss side effect anyway, because I am already on Lamictal for bipolar-but who knows-there was the post about taking Lamictal and Topomax together-I may just ask my pdoc about that. I really have struggled with my weight, I am used to weighing about 130, ran and was very active, and starting on meds, along with decreasing my exercise-hasn't helped the situation. I'm tryiing to increase more exercise!I hear everyone and can relate to the concern of weight gain with some of these meds-it sux :-(
But, I wish you the best, and keep us posted

I think we almost all can agree that a certain amount of weight gain is expected with any anti-depressant. I took Topomax for several months and I as well as some other people I've heard from, really only lost 5 or 6 lbs. Topomax was in my experience, the most HORRIBLE medication I have ever taken. I took it for migraines. I called it the "stupid" drug. I literally could NOT type and correctly spell simple words. I couldn't think clearly. It was terrible. I was glad to be off of it. I take 20 mgs of Lexapro and have gained weight with that. I wish there was a miracle medication for weight loss and depression, but if there is, I haven't heard of it. Good luck to you!!
