The last thing I needed

Posted by jonh kimble on March 17, 2003, at 17:13:15

Hi everyone. Im really not doing well lately but I had hope as I was on a waiting list to see a pdoc any time now. The wait was is 3 months.Well I just called the office and they had no record of me at all and turns out my gp forgot to send in the papers! I told them at the office that I am really hanging on by a thread and was suprised i had made it this long, but they said so is everyone else on that list! Now its 3 months or more, once again. I know Im going to completely break down now, three more months with no progress and this hell is way to much. How could this happen! What can I do? I live in Canada at its at least 3 months to see anyone. Thanks for your help.

I'm sorry. That stinks. Can your GP do anything for you. Start you on some meds or something? What about going to the ER. Over exaggerate if you have to for help. I'm in the states so I don't know if they do that in Canada. What about St. John's wort. I have never tried it but at least you don't need a Rx for it. What is your problem by the way? Depression? Anxiety? Hope I was of of any help. Good luck.

This has happened to me. If I were you, I would demand that you need to be seen or a terrible consequence may happen-and that isn't a lie. I hope you do this, you deserve to be seen just as "everybody else on that list" and some may just be re-chcks anyway-which, IMHO, isn't more important than the despair I hear from you here.
Please try this k? Keep me posted:-)

Hi Jonh:

There might be a website, like here in Ontario, run by your provincial 'College of Physicians'.(These would be the folks who do licensing of any doctors/physicians/psychiatrists etc..in your province.) Try looking for it on the web, or in your phone book. They usually have a database of not only each doctor and their specialty (i.e. psychiatrist, etc), but who is taking new patients. I know it is a pain in the arse, but keep looking, as that is your best chance at finding an excellent psychiatrist.

Best wishes,
Jay

Hi John, I'm in Ontario and trust me, you can get help if you need it. I would suggest going to a hospital if you are feeling suicidal. They may admit you for a brief observation period (72 hours) but at least you will get in to see someone.

Yes, going to the ER if you're desperate is certainly a good idea. And Jay's suggestion is also worth checking out.

The only thought I can add is whether you can get on a cancellation list so they call you at short notice is someone else can't keep their appointment. I know some doctors keep that kind of list, so ask and see what they say.

Good luck to you, and hang in there. Keep letting us know how you're doing.

All the best!
