Back to square one

Well I made it a point to keep in mind all along that the wonderful effects from the Provigil were just too good to be true. And I guess I've proven myself right once again; Friday I developed a debilitating headache from it that absolutely prohibits me from continuing to take it. So now I'm being referred for a "second opinion" (shouldn't it be 866th opinion by now?) and am to begin seeing some doctor 80 miles away in Houston sometime next month. My current pdoc, as well as three past pdocs, including the one from MHMR, are passing along the word that basically only the most radical treatments are even worth trying at this point. Seeing as how I've already done the opioid thing, I'm pretty skeptical--cynical even--at this point. I'm just about ready to pack up and move to Europe so I can just do some Dutch 'self-medicating'. Anything to avoid the inevitable alcoholism-trap that's not too far off. Though absinthe *is* legal over there... that could be a problem in itself.....

Okay, I'm just rambling now. I guess my mind's pretty made up. If this doctor is as stumped as everyone else is, I guess there's nothing keeping me here.

Ideas?...Anyone?...

You will be okay-this too shall pass. When people say "basically only the most radical treatments are even worth trying at this point". Ummmmmmmm I don't know about that. I did ECT and I lost a lot of short term memory 2 years before. Really think-everyone-about this statement.

"...I'm just about ready to pack up and move to Europe so I can just do some Dutch 'self-medicating'."

Been there. Done that. It did not work.

Helping people who are less fortunate than myself has been the most effective treatment for my condition. Thanks for letting me rant.

Just a little note on something I have picked up:
Provigil is a pro-glutamic med, and I am deeply suspicious of glutamic acid/glutamine. For one, the chemical is implicated in both strokes (during a stroke, loads of glutamic acid is/are released into the brain) and seizures. (No, I am not saying it, nor Provigil DO cause these things, "always".) Also, many mood stabilizers are anti-glutamic acid/glutamine. So, that leaves some deep questions about neurological effects.

What about the amphetamines and even Ritalin and it's off-shoots? What is your diagnosis, and what are your symptoms? Don't go packin' yet (even though I am envious of Dutch drug laws :-)

Hi, "...I'm just about ready to pack up and move to Europe so I can just do some Dutch 'self-medicating'."

Been there. Done that. It did not work. Even when I just moved to another state......

All the best, Kristen:-)
