Weaning from 2mg Klonopin to 1 1/2mg any thoughts?

Posted by KrissyP on March 8, 2003, at 12:41:54

Hi all,
I took my Effexor 75mg last night after I was contemplating not to-I also took my 50 mg Lamictal (hoping to increase the dose within time) and I have to say I woke up feeling better-not as much mania. BUT, I also woke up feeling tired even after 9 hours of sleep. So, I am planning on taking (like my doc and I have been discussing) 1 1/2 mg of the Klonopin instead of the usual 2mg and see if this helps with the tiredness when I wake up after a good amount of sleep. After all, I got 9 hours of sleep-pretty normal for me.
Any thoughts would be greatly accepted.
Thanks:-)Kristen

Remember the Seroquel will also make you feel tired in the morning! I love the Seroquel yet I also hate it because of the groggy mornings. I guess sleeping through the night is better than nothing. Does the Seroquel help you with your mania. It makes me have no emotions. I wish I had hypomania in the day and not at night too.

Hi, Yep, I remember very well:-) Seroquel helps somewhat with my mania-I remember when I was taking 200mg, I was a complete zombie I couldn't see straight-it's a powerful med. I'm also going to try maybe 50mg of the Seroquel tonight instead of 100-I'm playing around-I will get it soon. How much do you take again? 100 or 50?
Yes, sleeping through the night is great and all, but I have posted that I have gained a lot of weight on Seroquel and also woke up BLOATED after taking it at night to sleep (on 200mg), I was on 200mg a few years ago, now 100mg, and will try 50mg tonight. I only take it for sleep so my goal is to get off it. We'll see.
You say>>"I wish I had hypomania in the day and not at night too". Me too.
Keep well,
Kristen:-)

I take 25-50mg Seroquel at night. I don't think I have gained weight at all. I don't weigh myself but my clothes are fitting the same. Knock on wood!

Hi Jill,
That is wonderful, I do believe that Seroquel at lower doses doesn't add weight, if any to some. Again, I guess it all depends on the person.
*knockin on wood for ya!*

Hi Kristen,

Just a thought, but with all that you're going through, is this really the time to be trying to cut back on benzos? They can really help stabilize things, and it just doesn't sound like you should be messing with this right now. Of course, I don't know your situation, meds, etc.; all I know is that when I'm agitated, benzos are the best.

Hi,
Thnaks for your input- I appreciate it a lot.I see your point-and especially RIGHT NOW I am a mess- this happened to me last night, my mind is racing, I'm hyper, and talking to myself-like I should dump this friend I have because she and her hubby are prejudice towards my brother for what he did. I feel mad, things aren't going to well-let's just say I have had a "EUREKA" I have known these things for a while but I guess I am at a place where I need to address them and get over them and finally move on.
So sorry for rambling, Just a mess right now, can I get back to you? BTW, my doc and I had discussed tapering the Klonopin to 1mg-man my bro takes 8mg a day. *sigh* HELP!
Take care,
Kristen

Krissy,

I used to take Klonopin for bruxism at night. I took 1mg per night. I used to wake up mornings a little sleepy. It was not so bad for me.

I do have to say that using Neurontin instead of the Klonopin has improved my quality of sleep.

My pdoc says that Klonopin interferes with the regular sleep structure. Yes, you will sleep but you might not get all the right kinds of sleep at the right times for you. He claims that the Neurontin does not interfere with regular sleep structure.

I do have better sleep now. It really is a subjective thing and your mileage may vary.

Hi, did I already respond (sorry, I save, then sometimes forget lol) I think you make a good point here and I will continue with my Klonopin-but I am going to try 1mg or 1 1/2mg tonight-I woke up feeling groggy today. This lwo dose (50mg) of Lamictal has me sleeping better---for now-something I hope lasts and maybe will allow me to decrease the Seroquel(weight gainer for me) and Klonopin just a little. I really like Klonopin and it seems to help me.
Thanks again:-)I appreciate you!)Kristen=========================================================================================
