abilify and concentration

Posted by babs on March 6, 2003, at 19:06:55

I saw a psychopharmacologist today who suggested I switch from risperdal to abilify because I gained 60 pounds on risperdal and it exacerbates my ADD. He said I may find it agitating at first but in the long run it will probably increase my concentration. Has anyone experienced this? I'm hoping it's true!

Cybercafe- I am unipolar with GAD, OCD and ADD but I have been fortunate enough to be able to hold down a job throughout all this. Actually I'm in grad school right now and the concentration thing is a HUGE issue. I'm hoping the abilify might help.

hmm... are you taking a stimulant?

i dunno... in most people... does untreated ADD usually prevent people from working, or is it more of just an inconvenience?

Yes- I am taking adderall and it helps somewhat but not as much as it used to. As far as working goes I think it depends on the severity of everything and what kind of work you do. Until I returned to school I was a teacher and it worked well because you switch activities fairly often. The kids loved my ADD moments!

Hi babs. I was wondering how you are doing on Abify in terms of concentration and agitation? I am stopping Abilify today. I just cannot function on this med. I'd rather have the sedation of Seroquel than this agitation and inability to concentrate at all!

I know Abilify helps so many. My chemistry is just not right for it though. Just curious if your agitation went away?

i, too have considered a change to abilify from seroquel ... i , too, have gained 60 lbs. in a couple years from my antipsychotic ... it has about the same weight gain potential as risperdal ... and soooo ...

i wondered whether upon switching to ablify you, babs, or anyone can tell me whether they experienced weight change?

thank you soooo much.
