Hi, I just wanted to post this. I know that Ambien is normally used for SHORT TERM insomnia. I got myself in a mess last summer by taking up an offer on someone who was taking Ambien. I took one, didn't do much, then 2, then 3, and ended up in the ER with horrible, frightening chest pain. This occurred over a period of 3 days. It was my fault as I have a rather addictive personality-if I don't feel the effects of a med that will help me sleep, or in the past, alcohol shots that haven't given me a buzz yet, I do more, I have never touched Ambien since.
My point, please, please be careful, and try not to take a medication that isn't prescribed for YOU-I learned the hard way. Just wanted to share:-)Comments would be great.

Sometimes I take ambien when I go out. It makes me more sociable. I know thats bad, but I hate always being so depressed and unhappy when I go out and try to socialize. Also, I never thought it helped much in making me sleep.

What other meds are you on? Nothing seems to help you with your depression? Keep me posted and hang in there,

Just Wsome ativan. I was thinking of trying a TCA with thyroid hormone. By the way you did sound like a mother. It seems like you and I are the only ones home now. I'm working on the computer right now and this in between.

Hey there-------I must have left right after you posted this-I spent the day with a friend. I am so sorry:-( didn't mean to sound like a mother. I have never taken a TCA but have taken Ativan.

do psychiatrists (normally) prescribe ambien? I thought about asking mine about it for my insomnia, but i'm not sure if its a 'psych. drug'..just curious

Psychiatrists AND pdocs, from what I know can both prescribe AMBIEN. It is a simple med for Insomnia. It can be addicting and everyone reacts differently. I don't think it falls into the category of a "psych drug"

If one were to take say, 20 mg... and were then to stay up rather than fall asleep... one would then become very silly and confused, and have a hell of time watching objects float around in one's home and seeing two of everything. One would forget most of what occured by the next day.
Not that anyone would or should do that. Drugs are bad.
