Hey all, just wanted to get your opinions on this one. I'm not psychotic as far as I know, and I'm definitely not schizoprehenic (sp?) yet I have been placed on Seroquel. I've never become delusional, have never had vivid hallucinations, and have never heard a single peep from any voices. However, I do have a fairly severe anxiety disorder, a fairly severe depressive disorder, some difficulties from post-traumatic stress, and before this past year I abused drugs heavily for about 10 years. I have also had a lot of problems dealing with any SSRIs in the past.
I'm just wondering what this would actually work for... my anxiety or my depression or both?
Whenever I look it up on the Net I see that it's used just for psychosis and schizoprhenia, neither of which I have.
Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike. I was on Seroquel 25-50 mg at bedtime for over one year. I was on Paxil CR for part of that year but mostly just on the Seroquel alone.
My diagnoses are depression, anxiety, PTSD and dissociative disorder, nos. I am not psychotic and have never heard voices. My own thoughts start racing ahead in a clutter at times, but they are my thoughts. :)
With that said, Seroquel helped my anxiety and depression wonderfully, but at a very low dose. Whenever the dose was increased at night to more than 50mg I couldn't function and felt like a zombie. For others though, higher doses are just fine.
While help with sleep was why I took Seroquel to begin with ( at least that is what my pdoc told me, hey, wait a minute...),it did end up helping my anxiety and depression as well. Don't be afraid to try it. Good luck.

Thanks for your reply, and I am already on Seroquel. I was just interested in why exactly I was on it. Both of the Doctors that I am seeing suggested that it would do wonders for me since I have so much problem tolerating any other Anti-Depressants, and for the last 2 weeks I've been concentrating on adjusting my body to it. Currently I'm on 100mg of Seroquel every night. I've only boosted it up to 100mg two nights ago though, but since then I've lost all of my motivation. I'm hoping that this comes back in time, but I can also say that I have no anxiety, no depression, and with 1mg of Clonazepam every night before bed, usually taken about an hour after the Seroquel, I'm sleeping like a baby. The mornings are somewhat rough but I expect them to become easier with time.I was just wondering which part of my condition would be treated by the Seroquel... the anxiety or the depression. My Doctors have also mentioned that they would like to see me taken off of Depakote (which I'm on currently at 500mg per day) and put onto a low dose of Lamictal.
I'm just hoping that this is an effective method of long-term treatment of my condition. I'm really getting sick and tired of waiting to see with all of these different meds to see how strong I'm able to become... how much of my old self will return... just so I can forget this phase of my life and move on. It's been time to move on now for quite a while and I'm ready... I just want to make sure that my body is in agreement with me on this.

Hi Mike. When I tried a higher dose of Seroquel I too lost all my motivation. I felt just blah about everything. For me, going down to the 25-50 mg dose was what helped. I would feel a bit groggy in the morning but a cup of coffee would clear that up.
I would say Seroquel mostly decreased my anxiety. In turn this helped my depression. Seroquel treated my anxiety first and the added benefit of not being so depressed followed. Just guessing, but a good guess.

Hmmmm.... interesting... I guess I'll have to wait and see what my PDoc says next week about my current condition... I feel "blah" right now, but I only increased my Seroquel to 100mg two days ago... when I was at 75mg for about 4 days I actually felt pretty good.... and shouldn't you wait and see after about 2 months, if it's not effecting you too drastically, what the outcomes are before dropping or increasing the dosage?I don't know... I just want to be back to the way I was before all this stuff started happening... If it means that I'm going to feel *blah* for a little bit, then so be it...
I WANT MY LIFE BACK
I think that's a good enough ending statement lol......

My pdoc just recently gave my Provigil to help with the "blah" feeling I had in the morning. I also take Seroquel at night only 25-50mg for sleep. My doc gave me the Seroquel because I could not sleep do to very bad anxiety (racing thoughts, my own). I have been on the Seroquel for about 3 weeks. I was taking 10mg Ambien and 0.5mg Xanex and I still couldn't sleep. I also take 40mg Prozac in the morning. I have only taken the Provigil today for the first time and no "blah" feeling there. I'm not anxious either. I also find that if I take the Seroquel early like 2 hours before you usually fall asleep I feel better in the morning. I was so used to taking the Ambien right before I went to bed even though it never seemed to work. But I did notice the Seroquel really helped with the anxiety. Good luck.
This is the end of the thread.
