I have just been put on Mirtazapine.. I did try it 4 years ago, but only for 5 weeks (I had a very strange pdoc at that time who changed my meds every time I saw him!), so dont; remember anything about it.
(I'll be taking it in conjunction with 10mg Olanzapine (Zyprexa)Any info on it would be very gratefull recived.

Hello Nikki, if its zispin then you must be an englander as am I!
Itried it for about 5 months, I found it to be very tolerable and quite good for sleep, sadly it did nothing for my condition but we are all different, valium makes me very anxious for example whereas xanax is a dream.
Its worth a try I am sure and there were no withdrawal effexts for me at all even with fairly abrupt tapering, not that I would recommend this!Good luck
Glenn

A better combo with Zyprexa is Prozac.
If your dose of Remeron is in the 15mg to 30mg range, you will likely be heavily sedated. If it is in the 45mg to 60mg range, it might be more activating. But generally speaking, mixing Remeron with Zyprexa is begging for a really sedating mixture.

I've been on Remeron 45mg since Nov 2002. It has been a great drug for me. I was on Paxil for three years, and did really well. It eliminated my anxiety and depression, but after 3 years the anticholonergic effects became intolerable ie everything became dry esp. vaginal dryness. All the other SSRI's have the same problem. Remeron is non anticholinergic so it's been great. The BIGGEST problem is weight gain. I gained 12 lbs in three weeks, and without some aid of another drug, it won't come off!!!! I have tried Topamax for the weight gain: didn't work. I'm now on Phentermine 30mg a day to help with weight loss. So far, in three weeks, I may have lost a couple of lbs but I haven't weighed in yet. The intransigent weight gain is the biggest frustration! I also found that taking the Remeron around 2pm worked better for me than taking it at night. If I took it at night, I was way too groggy in the morning and couldn't get up. I hope it works for you!!

I don't want to discourage you, so keep in mind that every person responds differently to medications...
I was on mirtazapine for 6 weeks...it was AWFUL...I was in a study for OCD, and it really did not help me at all...in fact, it brought on a HUGE depression for me. I gained 10% of my body weight in just a month on it, and I am a naturally thin person who does NOT gain weight easily (and I haven't really gained weight on any other meds,I might add). I couldn't wear ANY of my pants, only one skirt that had an elastic waistband. It also made me sleep about 14 hours a day...I was always extremely tired and sedated, unmotivated and irritable.
I believe that it might work for some, but for me it was terrible. Just wanted to give you my experience.
