lexapro and sexual side effects

Posted by sbh on February 16, 2003, at 14:35:22

I have tried all the SSRI's with varying degrees of success. Prozac worked by far the best but I hated the sexual side effects (although Buspar was helpful for those). I just started Lexapro 2 days ago. So far so good but Im wondering how Lexapro campares with others in terms of sexual side effects. Here is a list of the side effects I experienced. I'd love to hear others experiences:
Paxil- nausea; zoloft- breast pain; effexor-dry mouth, constipation; Wellbutrin-intense anxiety; Serzone-mental dullness; Celexa-intense spaciness; Prozac initial anxiety but then real success except for above mentioned sexual effects. I HOPE the Lexapro doesn't have this. I'd love to hear from others.

Lexapro is by far the best in terms of anorgasmia of any of the SSRIs (I've tried them all). However, libido-wise, I found I was better on an SNRI like Effexor. Lexapro is probably just average among the SSRIs in terms of libido-reduction. But if it's purely performance-based results you're looking for, Lex is your guy.

Lexapro is the same drug as celexa; it's just the isolated, active isomer. I experience decreased sex drive and delayed orgasm on 20mg of lexapro daily. Everyone is biochemically different though. You never know how you will react to a drug.

I've been on Lexapro (10 mg) for about 8 weeks. Past meds include Zoloft (exhaustion and sexual side effects), Effexor (nausea, sexual side effects) and Wellbutrin SR by itself(anxiety, sleep problems). I have a fair degree of anaorgasmia and lack of arousal with Lexapro. Doc prescribed Wellbutrin SR 150 mg to counteract these effects, but it caused too much anxiety for me. I just started on ReQuip today - too soon to know how it is working. I've noticed for the last couple of days (since I stopped the Wellbutrin) I have been exhausted and a little dizzy - I don't know whether this is the Lex acting on its own or just PMS or the natural tiredness of taking care of two little kids. Anyway - I hope Lex works for you!

It's actually a Parkinson's medication but it acts as a dopamine aganist - stimulates the "pleasure" receptors. I posted some of the side effects I've been having further down the page. Have you had luck with anything for the sse's?

buspar is great for sexual side effects and if you have anxiety it's much better then Wellbutrin. Has anyone tried using only 5 mg of Lexapro? Did it decrease anorgasmia or help libido? sbh

I am actually on 20 mg of Lexapro as well as 150 Wellbutrin SR twice a day. And my sexual side effects that I had with Zyprexa have improved greatly! Its still harder to reach my point :) but I do have a much better libdo. My husband actually is calling me a animal and turning me down now! Go figure :) LOL
