Bleah- fish oil caps

Posted by missliz on February 11, 2003, at 1:07:41

Fish oil has been very good to me- but I'm SO tired of choking down all those horse pills. I've been taking ten for three and a half grams of EPA, then slid down to six or seven for - what, about two grams? still doing well but whats the latest on minmum dose? It's been six months and I'd think I could scale the dose down to a lower maintenance dose than ten of these giant pills.
I mean, I've got meds, fish oil, calcium and magnesium (very calming) B complex, zinc (stops hair loss) and its a lot of pills!
So, whats the latest on dosing? I heard they were testing lower doses of EPA at McLean but hadn't heard the outcome.

Onr recent report showed that 1g daily of EPA was producing good results. However if you are reducing do so slowly and move up again if necessary.Individual responses do vary widely.

here's my trick:

right before a large "fatty" meal, swallow all your capsules. then eat away.

i'm using omegabrite and have not suffered at all. when i used other products (FISOL) i did. omegabrite is too expensive imho, but it does have a good ratio of the fats (7:1) and is easy to take.

Flax seed oil has high Omega-3 content. The studies have been done on fish oils but flax seed oil goes down a lot better than those fish oil horse pills.

I also find the fish oil caps less appealing. I use a liquid that is much more palatable. It doesn't taste like fish oil and no fishy burps. It is flavored with a slight lemony taste. The bottle label even says you don't have to take it as a med--you can use it as a salad oil.

Conversion of short chain fatty acids in flax oil to long chain DHA and EPA is not great.Better stick to the fish oil if you really need it-Omegabrite and Eskimo 3 capsules do not taste bad.
