After starting Lamictal 300mg over the summer, i suddenly noticed an enormous difference in how my Klonopin would feel. It seemed much more powerful, and at first made me almost euphoric. Unfortunately this only lasted a week or so, or at least any euphoric effects. I later stopped the Klonopin for a while, and started again in September. The same thing happened: a week or two of euphoria and giddiness after each dose, and lasting most of the day. Now, do these two drugs get metabolized by the same enzymes or something? How can there be a synergy between Klonopin and Lamictal? I would LOVE some insight on this perplexing problem.

Very simple. GABA and glutamate are the main neurotransmitters in the brain. GABA is inhibitory and glutamate is excitatory - negating each other. LAmictal lowers glutamate levels, and Klonopin raises GABA levels, and there you got - a SYNERGY!

Are high levels of GABA associated with pleasure or euphoric feelings? I would think more GABA would just depress the brain, as it is inhibitory like you said. Thanks for the help.
