Effexor question

Posted by Kat26 on December 17, 2002, at 14:04:52

Is Effexor a good option for somebody who has too many side effects from SSRIs (night sweats, tremor, restless legs)?
If Prozac started working a little but the side effects are bad, could Effexor work too without the side effects?

The medication would be for compulsiveness, depression and disordered eating.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't had any such negative effects since I started taking Venlafaxin, while having MASSIVE such effects when taking Edronax (Which is an SNRI, and not at all comparable to Prozac).

Best would be to just go ahead and try, maybe?

I had insomnia and restless legs from Prozac, Celexa and Effexor (all SSRI's). I've read on these message boards that Paxil seems to work better for women and Effexor for men, for what it's worth. If you were set on a SSRI, I would try either of these depending on your gender. I suspect the you will still get the restless legs and other side effects. Ambien helps me sleep without a hangover the next morning, when I've taken while on a SSRI.

My mother-in-law has great success with Paxil for anxiety and eating disorders. She loves the drug, but everyone is different. I hope you find the right one for you.

I'd bet not. Swith to Celexa, or Paxil if you still have side effects. Adding Zyprexa or Seroquel will do.
