Is there anyone out there that experiences irritability while taking Klonopin? I take it for extreme anxiety issues, was never a irritable person. When I started taking Klonopin the first time i took 1 mg at night and .5 in the morning and i would get agitated later in the day. My pdoc said to just spread the dosage out through the day taking .5 in morning and .5 in afternoon and .5 at night. Well, after a couple days of doing this i am irritable again? Has anyone experienced this as a side effect and will it eventually go away?

Hi waynebrandon,
I take Klonopin at night for sleep (don't have anxiety problems) - have bad insomnia. I do get irritable but can't blame it on the K. My irritability seems more related to lack of sleep. How is your sleep hygiene? Not saying this the cause of your problem, just curious.

Just the reverse, I get irritable if I don't take Klonopin.

Hi, I've got bipolar/ADHD with temper spells and Valium used to trigger hostility. The high-potency ones (Klonopin/Ativan/Xanax) didn't give me any trouble with that, however. One thing I have noticed with Klonopin-if I am in a situation that typically is stressful and anger-provoking I can feel "sullen" if I take it other than at bedtime. My "fuse" doesn't go-but I may sit and ruminate with angry thoughts (kind of an inward-directed hostility). Usually, it is depressive symptoms that are being aggravated by the Klonopin (IMO), because my depression isn't being treated properly. I avoid taking it in the daytime unless there is a specific situational thing where I expect to get panicky.
