do most HMO's cover new meds upon release?

Posted by hok on December 11, 2002, at 23:29:53

I'm highly anticipating the release of the new non-stimulant med Tomoxetine, but I'm wondering if most insurance companies will cover it right away. Does anybody know if most insurance companies cover new meds upon release or do they usually wait a certain period of time til after it's been on the market? I'm hoping my HMO gets on the ball immediately and covers it, but knowing mine, they'll probably start to cover it years from now.

varies by HMO, no way to make a general statement.
Ask your HMO.
