Okay, after a year of seeing a p-doc for my anxiety and the ADD he also diagnosed, he diagnoses me as bipolar all of a sudden, because Adderall hypes me up.
I don't get depressed, but it would explain a lot of my moodiness and craziness when my parents said "no" sometimes and I felt like I couldn't snap out of acting wild. Or how I intensely get wrapped into things for a few weeks at a time, then suddenly move on as if I never cared about it.

ADD is usually one of the first diagnoses that they give you before you are diagnosed as Bi-Polar. You should find out what type of Bi-Polar your doctor thinks you are as there are various types and not every person who suffers from this illness falls into depressions.Anyways, I'm Bi-Polar 1 with mixed episodes (among other things) and my FIRST diagnosis, like when I was first starting off in school at 4 years old, was ADD. Since then, however, I've managed to get my high school diploma and 2 College Diplomas as well as many various certifications. So that kind of blew up in their faces. Then I was being treated on ADs which would make me manic and that with even the 'slightest' change in my dosage would bring about horrible results. Then one day a friend of mine sent me an article on Bi-Polar Disorder and I'm like, damn... this fits me to a T.
Anyways, there's like 4 different classes of Bi-Polar illness all ranging in intensities and symptoms experienced and which could or could not include ADD as a second illness that you're suffering from along with being Bi-Polar.

utopizen,
A couple of sites you may want to check out if you haven't already are:
http://www.bipolarworld.net/Phelps/topicarchive.htm
http://www.psycheducation.org/
In my opinion, which is not an authoritative one, Dr. Phelps is too biased toward seeing bipolar disorder and perhaps the strict avoidance of anti-depressants as well. Nonetheless, he provides some valuable information and important questions you can raise with your pdoc. Just remember, don't diagnose yourself. Give the new diagnosis a chance, but if things don't improve, get a second opinion from someone more qualified. My last pdoc said I was bipolar without a doubt, but I didn't start to get better until I changed pdocs and my treatment was more focused on depression and anxiety. I hope things start to get better for you!

> JonIt appears that my "bipolar" if that's what it is (my doc said he wants to work on the anxiety before getting to treating bipolar if that's what it is) aggravates my ADD.
I definitely need to continue Adderall, it's just that on top of ADD I do get very intense about things in spouts followed by lulls of non-intensity on everything, including stuff I need to do.
This would *definitely* explain why my room goes a few weeks being spotlessly immaculate with a few weeks being dirty.... =)
Productivity, though, wow. that's the biggest thing, and bipolar+add would definitely explain why my productivity is never consistent through the school year...
This is the end of the thread.
