Fish Oil Makes Me Sick

Posted by kara lynne on November 22, 2002, at 14:47:55

There is little more disgusting than burping up rancid tasting fish for the entire evening. I tried one 500mg. capsule of Omega 3 oils and regretted it all night. I will try Eskimo 3 if I can find it, but these are going in the trash today!

I take Eskimo-3 capsules myself but cannot tolerate any other version without getting a horrible taste. If you cannot tolerate Eskimo-3 it is unlikely that you will tolerate any version of fish oil.You could of course eat plenty of mackeral and salmon and get a reasonable amount that way.

Do you remember something in the news a couple of weeks ago about people having terrible problems from eating salmon (from farms? I don't remember). Anyway, now I have it in the back of my mind that it's not good to eat salmon-- or swordfish--or tuna.

I don't know what you read, but salmon are generally much safer to eat than tuna or swordfish. Farmed salmon can be contaminated because the feed can be contaminated, by industrial processing.

Mercury is a pretty good marker for all sorts of contamination. If you decrease mercury risk, you decrease the others as well.

Here's a pretty good summary of mercury risk by type of fish:
