I quit taking zyprexa about 2 weeks ago. (Have been on it for the past 2 years at 10 mg/day).
My brain is going through some severe withdrawal symptoms. Besides a burning pain I feel cloudy and majorly disoriented; all I can do is sleep to end the misery. Eventually the only thing I could think of doing was to get back on my regular dosage. It didn’t help at all, I still feel the same. (One week into it). I am wondering whether there are other people out there who have successfully withdrew from this medication. Also whether the side-effects of withdrawing eventually dissipate or not.

you didn't taper? shame on your doc, if he didn't have you do that. a lot of people have withdrawal on zyprexa, when i took 10mg/day- i went down 2.5 mg every 1-2 weeks (my pdoc said some people have to go slower). if you are still having a lot of symptoms see your pdoc and you may have to go on a benzo or small amount of zyprexa and taper down from there. best of luck- judy

dose. hmmm, 1 week and no relief? I still think I would add a benzo like klonopin and then taper the zyprexa and then the benzo. take care.

Can stopping a med like this abruptly cause any brain damage? Or is it just withdrawal symptons
that will go away?

my pdoc always says it's temporary, but sometimes the effects can last a significant amount of time. if it was me, i would give it about a month (if you can stand it) and then go to my neurologist who can give a thorough exam. i'm so sorry you are going through all of this, one of the reasons i'm so deadset against APs on a regular basis. take care, judy

I had literally lost my grip on reality. Now I'm feeling great!
I want to thank everyone on this bulletin board who helped me out with this struggle.

My symptoms have come back. Do you know how Klonopin might help me?

Can you expand on this?
You lost your grip on reality when you went on Zyprexa?
Is that right?
