HELP!!!

Posted by atxbelle2000 on November 4, 2002, at 23:55:04

I am just at the end if my rope! I can't do any of this anymore! The prozac hasn't helped me at all. My grades are still droping because I don't have the energy to get up to go to class. I am jut wondering will taking this medicine do me any good in the future?

Hi,
Read your message and it sounds like you may be taking an anti-depressant for the first time. I don't know what your doctor told you, or how long you've been taking the Prozac but the fact is that all anti-depressants take about 3-4 weeks to work, sometimes even more. That can seem like an eternity when you're suffering, but you have to hang in there and give it a chance. If after about one month, you're not feeling better, then any GOOD doctor should discuss having you make a change. Prozac doesn't work for everyone. Unfortunately, it's very much trial and error. You are not alone; millions of other people are going through the same thing you are. You just have to be strong and wait until the Prozac works, or try different meds until you find the right one for you. But don't give up.

Hi, are you suffering from depression or OCD?

OCD is a terrible disease. Given an option of getting depression or OCD, I would opt for depression!

Let your prozac work for a few more weeks and at a higher dose. SSRIs don't work overnight.

Thanks,
I know that the prozac doesn't work overnight. I was on effexor for about 7-8 weeks, but was having problems with it so I was switched. I think that I may have a little OCD, but not enough to worry about right now. What I'm mainly worried about at this point in time is the A.D.D., depression, and anxiety. These have done a lot of damage to my G.P.A, and relationships with friends, family and my boyfriend.

I guess I thought that the prozac would work faster because I had taken the effexor and I could tell a difference, if I remember correctly the next day, or two days later. I don't know.

Thanks for your time. I'm gonna try to get some sleep tonight.

What kind of problems were you having when you were on effexor?

If such kind of damage was done, I would prefer not to have depression too!

I don't get what you mean. You mean when you switched to prozac, you felt a 'difference' (improvement) 2 days later? is that what you're saying?

Are you having problems sleeping? If yes, try 50mg trazodone at night, it takes away the problem of sleeping. I had my 1st good night sleep in 28 years of my life when I 1st took trazodone.

I would rather not have any more medications because I'm afraid that I would forget to take them. I have a hard time remembering the prozac and my birth control as it is... so I don't think that it would be very smart to add other meds. in. I seem to get my best studying done when everyone else is in bed and it's quite. They don't make the walls very thick, so you can hear a lot of noise when everyone is up.

Hi,
Thanks, I know I was on effexor for 7-8 weeks and I noticed a huge difference like the day after I started taking it. But the bad thing was that it was giving me all sorts of problems. So I was switched to the prozac weekly, and I've been on it for three weeks as of saturday.

From all I've read, it's really good that you got off Effexor. And if you had no serious problems reducing the dosage and actually quitting it, then consider yourself lucky. Many people have had terrible problems quitting Effexor.

As for the Prozac, just hang in there--the toughest thing for anyone on anti-depressants is the long wait till they kick in--usually about a month or so.
