I have a sibling who is on methadone as treatment for opiate addiction. I am positive this is the result of years of self medicating. "Bea" has had problems with opiates, cocaine, benzos, and alcohol. From what I've been reading, it's not a good idea to combine benzos with the high doses of methadone an addict takes. I've also recently discovered Bea has been doing just that. My question is about her urine tests. What do they screen for? Would her pdoc or counselor know she's been abusing other drugs?
Thanks,
Fenny

It is very likely that benzodiazepines are among the drugs that they are screening for.Screening though has not been proven to achieve very much although it costs plenty to do it.Small doses of diazepam are prescribed by some doctors for some people on methadone while others oppose the idea very much.It is very hard to get off methadone but taking some omega-3 fish oil helps some people to reduce the dose. The big risk with methadone appears to be drinking alcohol with it-this can be a fatal combination as both opiates and alcohol depress the respiratory system.
