I had been taking effexor, paxil, zolpft, prozac for depression and anxiety (not at the same time). I quit all except prozac because of side effects. My doc then diagnosed me as mild bipolar. The cycle is about 3- 4 months. The up cycle is not very manic but the down can be very low. I do not want to get rid of the up cycle. That is when I feel my best. He just perscribed zyprexa and I am afraid to take it because it says it is a strong antipsychotic med. It says that it is used to control mania episodes for a short period of time. Does anybody have any experience in this med for mild bipolar? It was not a pdoc but just a GP that perscribed it. By the way, at the present time, I am in neither extreme state.

Don't consider Zyprexa unless you are seeing
a pdoc, and GP should not be trying to treat BP.

Butterfly,
Your deppression sounds similar to mine. If you are like me then if you take Zyprexa you will feel like your butterfly wings have been clipped! That is how I felt on every antipsychotic I have ever tried. Also lithium. I know what you mean when you say you do not want to get rid of the up cycle. Please try fish oil (omega 3) Omegabrite brand I'm told is the best. Take it whether you are up or down. also discuss some milder med alternatives with your Dr.Lawrence S.
