How long should I wait before moving up the dose or adding another? I'm on 150mg Effexor XR, for a month and a week. Before this, I was on a week of 37.5 followed by a week of 75 followed by a week of 37.5+75mg.
I now and then, maybe a few times a week, will notice a slight headrush when I get up. That's so far the only side effect. So I guess I'm rather lucky. But should I wait another month before I think about upping the dose? I feel no effect whatsoever.

You should probably ask your dr. before you up the dose. I just switched my med from effexor xr to prozac, with his knowledge of course. You might want to wait it out.

Just from my limited experience of course, but I found I could "feel" the effexor days after I started, not weeks. I started at 75 mg though. Maybe that could have something to do with it?

I stayed with 150 mg for two months before I said anything to my doc. He increased me to 225 mg. I wish I had said something sooner. I also started with the sample pack as you did. I noticed a definite improvement as I got to 150 mg, but it started dipping after the first month and by the end of the second month my depression was coming back. Say something to your doc.

My experience was exactly the same. I noticed a dramatic improvement after 3-4 days on the 75mg dose. Utopizen, it may be time to revise your choice of medication.

Wow, you guys have been incredibly helpful. For a second there I thought I was being "impatient" and "greedy" not waiting until the very last second of the "6-8 weeks" we're so familiar with reading on the promos.
Of course I'd only up my dose after speaking with my doc, I was just hesitant because I was thinking "well, maybe if I say something he'll be impatient with waiting and then I won't really know if I could get away with 150 or not." But that's just silly, being afraid your own doctor will be impatient.
Clearly, since I have no side effects so far, I seem to tolerate it well. So I don't know why 225 a day wouldn't hurt. Certainly 150 isn't helping! And I probably should do it soon, because I'll need to know if even 225 works, or to go back to the drawining board or consider augementing it with another.
My doc said when he handed me the sample that if it doesn't work out I may have to combine it with another med. I'm not sure what he has in mind. After failed Celexa and Paxil trials, he isn't optimistic over the SSRIs, but he may think of these differently in terms of combining them with Effexor... who knows. Wellbutrin gave me a very severe dry throat that would wake me up each morning at 3am, which isn't good for my sleep. So I had to stop that. Shame, since I never even got to see if it worked. Maybe he'll try Serzone, I don't know. But first I want to give 225 a shot...
