Lexapro User Here with Questions

Posted by fiddlepuppy on October 9, 2002, at 21:39:23

Today is my 8th day on Lexapro. I was give the med because I cam off Neurontin just over a week ago and my anxiety was topping the charts. Here is the thing. I am restless as a cat and anxious and agitated all the time. I have started clenching my teeth and every muscle in my body is tense. I had to come off the Neurontin over a 18 week period due to extreme itching and stinging and high anxiety.

My question is: Are these new symptoms caused by the Lexapro or withdrawals from the Neurontin still?

I also take Buspar and Klonopin for anxiety with no success since stopping the Neurontin and adding Lexapro. I also take Wellbutrin for depression and have been on it almost 2 years.

Thoughts appreciated

I had the teeth grinding, muscle tension thing just from Lexapro-- also I've been on it two weeks and it has not helped my depression. The muscle tension thing is letting up, still get the jaw clenching from time to time.

Are you taking any other meds with lexapro? Did you ask your Pdoc about the symptoms? I have a call into mine because I am getting concerned about the Serotonin Syndrome.

Thanks for the response

I am seeing my doc Monday. I am most upset that it's not working for my depression. I also take Ritalin (helps minimally and inconsistently-- don't like the extended release) and some sleep meds. I also became quite stupid on Neurontin and had to stop. It's possible you may still be reacting to the Paxil, Paxil made me grind my teeth like a mofo (sorry Paxil, don't mean to make you feel accused or put down). Maybe you could try halving your dose of Lexapro for a awhile--I'll go back and look at what you said you're taking. Good luck.

Well I have cut the Lexapro down to 5 mg a day and still the anxiety and agitation are horrendous. I think maybe I can not tolerate and SSRI. I was so counting on this med!

Try 2.5 mg for awhile. I have the same problem "getting on" SSRIs and found it takes several weeks of taking very small amounts to allow my system to adjust.

I was going to start Lexapro several weeks ago, but decided to go with Celexa so I could start with tiny dosages (5 mg) and work up.

Good luck.
