My doc put me on 1 mg of Xanax for when I can't sleep (insomnia due to stress). I took .5 mg last night and fell asleep around 11:30. When I tried to wake up at 8:30, I couldn't! I couldn't drag myself out of bed until almost 11:00 and then fell asleep when I got to class! Has anyone else experienced this? I want to be able to go to sleep, but not all the time! Thanks!

I find .5 mg Xanax to be too large a dose. I have .25 mg tablets and usually need only 1/2 (.125 mg) of a tablet to do the trick. Occasionally, I'll take a whole .25 mg tablet if I'm very anxious, but .5 will knock me out cold.
To help avoid Xanax "hangover," don't take it too late at night.
Also, I find Telenol PM works well as a sleep-aid--same as Benedryl.
Pleasant dreams!

Thanks Roman! I'll try .25 mg. My 1 mg are small, and it's hard to get THOSE in half...I'm not sure I'd be able to get it down to .125
The half of 1 mg tablet is like this small: {}
so I am not sure how I could half that twice to get to .125!
Thanks for the advice =)Myst

We're all different, but I if I take .5 mg xanax at bedtime I have less of a grogginess problem the next day than if I took one of the benadryl-based things. I find that if I take a doxylamine succinate-based OTC sleep medication, it's not as bad the next day as with benadryl, but both are worse than from xanax.
This is the end of the thread.
