I have been taking Parnate for over 20 years, with a few trys at Paxil and Celexa, but always go back to Parnate. I only take 20 mgs. a day. But, my Doctor recently prescribed Resperidone for me. I took a 1mg. Friday and one Saturday night. He wants me to take it to help calm me down and hopefully be able to sleep. I am under a lot of stress taking care of my Mom, who has dementia. But, I felt like it was "like putting the brakes on my brain". I did not like how it made me feel, plus I was not able to sleep. Is it me or is it the meds?

it does slow your thoughts down. it is suppose to help clear your thinking. i found 1 mg too much, it really slowed me down and made me too tired to function. i take .5 mg, and am stable there. you could go down to .25 too. i didn't find it helpful as far as GETTING me to sleep, although it does help make your sleep cycles more normal in general. it takes a little time to get used to the effects too, so you might want to lower the dose and then wait a couple weeks seeing if you are able to function at that dose.

Yes, I do agree, I will try a much smaller dose...maybe that was the problem....but I was given it to sleep and maybe a sleeping pill would be a better bet....I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia a few weeks ago and that is why he gave it to me...I am a late niter and never thought I required that much sleep...but now they are telling me it's vital that I sleep 7-8 hours a night, which for me is like being Rip Van Winkle.... :-0 thanks
